WOW. It's June already.
Shane has been on a two week semester break, so, I've had the past two weeks to catch up on chores, friends, and relaxing.
Got the yard in order, and the porch...furniture repainted, along with porch floor, and deck. We had a painting party to do the deck, so, instead of taking a week to get it done, it took 6 people 3 hours and a load of french toast to get it done. (breakfast) Had Memorial Day picnic that afternoon...so, the party got two meals and beer out of it.
Got wakened twice this week by bluejays rioting. Seems that our youngest cat, who is a crossbreed between mostly Siamese and a good part not-bright, has been snatching baby bluejays as they are learning to fly. Problem is, he does this at around 5 a.m. And adult bluejays, well, they don't like it much. So, the cat grabs a bird, hides under the table on the freshly-painted porch, and seems to pray that the 3 pairs of adult jays don't get up the nerve to do more than screech and swoop and squawk at him. Takes them about an hour to give it up. Loud, they are.
So, I take a cup of tea, sit at the end of the porch, and watch the hysterics of both the birds and the cats. At least I've seen some gorgeous sunrises this week.
I love watching the sun rise, although I have to admit to being partial to walking outside just before dawn, and seeing nothing but treetops, thanks to the fog that sometimes blankets the river valley. I know some who would say it's rather bleak, but bleak does have it's own harsh, serene beauty. Just that blanket of white, with nothing visible but treetops and the occasional church spire, just poking out of the fog like signposts to show that this is what some god made long before us, and will be, long after us. And the silence couldn't be more perfect .
No cars, trucks,. or buses. No kids running around.Even the birds seem to revere that hour of the day, with nothing more than quiet chirps.
Been watching the hockey playoffs....and yes, I'm a Pens' fan. Hockey is the only sport I enjoy watching...baseball never did interest me, and football....well, I think it's just a sport for big sissies. Play a few seconds, then huff and puff and whine for 5 minutes. Hockey rarely stops, can go into overtime, and those guys take a beating that would have football players crying in a few minutes. And after the 3 overtimes Tuesday night, come on, there's no way I can have any respect for overweight, overpadded, overpaid football players.
We are watching game 6 tonight....small party, while it goes on.
[Shane learned the other night not to watch hockey with cat on lap....when the Pens got a goal, she ended up with scratches on her legs...seems cheering and yelling upsets Jules]
Anyway, even if the Penguins don't win the Stanley Cup, kudos to a young team that has done more than anyone expected!!! And if they do win it, well, they deserve it!
